Maserati Electric Vehicles

Breaking ranks with the rest of the Fiat Chrysler Automobile Group Maserati announced that it would launch an all-electric vehicle, the Maserati Alfieri by 2019. Launched as a Concept vehicle in 2014 the Alfieri is one of two Maserati electric vehicles announced in 2016. The company will release a Maserati Levante SUV PHEV based on the Chrysler Pacifica Drivetrain in 2018.

Maserati announced its updated EV strategy in June 2018 and is depicted in the slides below. Maserati will phase out all diesel engines and switch to pure electric car and plug-in hybrid vehicles by rolling out four pure electric cars and eight plug-in hybrids by 2022. The electric models will be named the Maserati Blue line which will feature three electric motors with 800 Volt technology. The Maserati EV strategy will also see the company work with Ferrari to hybrid and all-electric powertrains.

Maserati will see the introduction of a luxury electric coupé (PHEV/e-AWD) capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in around 2 seconds, reflecting a focus on performance-oriented PHEVs.

Maserati Electric Car Strategy in the news

2020 Week 8 Maserai to invest in electricfication of its cars

Maserati plans to extend electrified options of its models. The FCA Group company will invest €800 million in its Mirafiori plant to achieve its EV strategy. The announcement comes hot on the heels of the Italian automaker, confirming that it will offer its Ghibli as a plug-in hybrid, and GranTurismo and GranCabrio models as pure electric models. The three models will join the electrified Quattroporte and Levante models, which will be released in 2022 and 2023.

The investment does not mean that the company is abandoning its combustion options. Maserati USA CEO, Al Gardner, said in 2019, "Maserati needs combustion engines. It needs that raw emotion."

2017 Week 30 Maserati to lead electrification charge at Fiat Chrysler

FIAT Chrysler and (former) EV naysayer, Sergio Marchionne, this week announced during an Investor event that all cars of its luxury marque Maserati would be electrified post-2019. Mr. Marchionne went further stating that half of Fiat Chrysler’s lineup, including Alfa Romeo, will be electric from 2022. The strategy will be formulated over the next year as the company enters its 3rd five-year plan in 2019.

2016 Week 47 Alfieri to go electric

Maserati’s Regional Manager for North Europe this week confirmed to Just-Auto that its Alfieri Concept introduced in 2014 would be commercially available as a full-electric version in 2020. Maserati, being part of the Fiat/Chrysler stable, follows a strategy of manufacturing just enough electric vehicles to comply with emission standards and benefit from incentives. The Alfieri will compete with the Porsche Mission E and Jaguar I-Pace.
