The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was unveiled in 2012 and is part of the 3rd-generation model series, sales commenced in Japan in January 2013, in Europe in October 2013 and the USA and Australia early 2014. The Mitsubishi Outlander is a top seller in various European markets, including the UK, Netherlands, and Sweden. Although the Outlander comes with two charging standards, CHAdeMO and SAE, the USA version will not have the CHAdeMO as according to the manufacturer there are not enough stations in the USA to warrant it. The Outlander has three driver-activated modes and automatic drive modes to ensure optimal performance and efficiency. The Mitsubishi Outlander is equipped with V2H capability in certain markets, including its home market, Japan. The1500 W 100 V power feeder V2H functionality enables the Outlander to meet “normal domestic requirements” for a day from a fully charged battery, and up to 10 days with a full gas tank.

Week 8 2018 - Outlander PHEV 2.0 set for Geneva launch

The Geneva Auto Show will be the venue for the global premiere of the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The main improvements of the Outlander PHEV 2.0 are:

  • A 2.4 Atkinson cycle petrol engine replaces the previous regular Otto cycle 2.0 liter. It allows for higher torque, smoother operation, and overall higher efficiency.
  • The generator output is increased by 10%.
  • The rear motor output is increased by 10%.
  • The drive battery capacity is increased by 15%.
  • The drive battery output is increased by 10%.

The 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV also is longer than its the previous model. The Outlander also gets two extra drive modes, a Sport and Snow driving mode complimenting the NORMAL and 4WD LOCK modes.
