The BYD e6 400 was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in 2009 and was initially introduced as a Shenzhen taxi in 2010. Sales of the BYD e6 began in China in October 2011 at the same time the vehicle had a name change to “e6 Xianxingzhe” (Forerunner). Due to it’s the large battery capacity and range the e6 is ideal for vehicle fleets with large range requirements, such as police vehicles and rental vehicles. The e6 is used as taxi’s in China, Belgium, Colombia, the New York and Chicago in the USA, and in the UK. Byd assembles the e6 at its Shenzhen plant in Guangdong China.
