BAIC EC180 EV
The BAIC launched the BAIC EC180 EV small hatchback at the Guangzhou Auto Show in 2016. The little car is a hit and topped the sales rankings in China within just three months of its release. BAIC aims to bring the popular car to other countries in the region and has already partnered with Micro Cars in Sri-Lanka for the local manufacturing. The BAIC EC180 EV is the best selling EV in China during the first quarter of 2017 and one of the Top 10 EVs by sale in the world. BAIC also brought a more powerful trim, the BAIC EC200 to market in 2017. The EC200 has a cruising range of 205km/128mi in its D Mode and 162km/101mi in the S Mode.
BAIC upgraded the safety off in the BAIC Ec200 by increasing the buffer space and applying a high-strength steel to 54% of the EC200. The car is also equipped with standard dual airbags, uphill assist, brake antilock and electronic braking to enhance the safety of the small EV. BAIC launched an updated version of the BAIC EC180 at the 2018 Bejing Auto Show, the BAIC EC3 (BAICEC220) which has an improved range.

China’s 2018 batch of new EV models have some surprisingly good cars threatening Western automakers still grappling how to catch-up to the increased popularity of EVs. While big auto plans to bring new models to market in 2020 China is already pushing out large amounts of new EV models.
